About Me

I take a humanistic approach to my work, which means I work with the whole person, body, mind and spirit. I hold the belief that, through the unique relationship of therapy, each individual has the ability to heal, grow and develop to reach their true potential.

I work with both adults and young people, usually from the age of 12 and up, and offer support to help them navigate their internal and external lives as each developmental stage unfolds. I also work as a school counsellor in a number of secondary schools in the north east, providing support to students, both in a group setting, and on a one to one basis.

Qualifications

In 2010 I graduated from Dundalk Counselling Centre as a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. In 2019 I gained a BA Hons degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Institute of Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy in Dublin.
Once qualified, I became an accredited psychotherapist with The Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (I.A.H.I.P).

Types of Therapy

Counselling

Counselling provides an opportunity with a trained professional to explore issues affecting your life.
Sessions are weekly and offer a space where you are listened to in a non judgemental, accepting way. Any issues that may be negatively affecting your life are explored safely and honestly.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is similar to counselling in that you meet with a trained professional weekly. In psychotherapy however the work is at a deeper level to explore psychological issues and their possible causes. Psychotherapy can be an extended process and may continue for longer than a year. As with counselling the length of time is always decided by you.

Person Centered Therapy

Person Centred Therapy places the client at the very core of their therapeutic experience.  I regard the dignity and respect of each individual I work with as paramount. I view each person with the capability to resolve their difficulties, realise their full potential and change their lives in a positive way through their time in therapy.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) explores the thoughts that influence behaviours, and seeks to encourage positive change by understanding and letting go of negative thoughts and behaviours. It can be used to explore a specific issue, or weaved with other approaches to promote change as part of a bigger issue.

Solution Focused Therapy

Solution focused therapy concentrates on helping people move towards the life they want.
Rather than focusing on the problem, they learn how to use their existing skills, strategies, and ideas to achieve their goals.

Strength Based Therapy

Strength Based Therapy is a form of positive psychotherapy and counselling.
It focuses more on internal strengths and resourcefulness, and less on believed weaknesses, failures and shortcomings.
